Cycling coach near me: how to choose the right coach
If you’re searching for a cycling coach near you, start with what coaching actually involves. Training plans, nutrition, strength work, data review and calls with your coach all work remotely, and they make up almost all of a season. The parts that do need to be in person, like course recons, descending skills and race-day support, are better delivered at camps and races than on a weekly local ride. So the best coach for your goal is the one with the right experience, wherever they live.

Most of that table doesn’t depend on where your coach lives. The in-person rows are where a coach earns their keep on race week, and that is why we build our team camps around the races our riders target.
When a local cycling coach makes sense
A local coach is a good choice in a few situations:
You’re new to riding and need hands-on help with bike handling, group riding and basic skills.
You want regular in-person sessions on a track, a velodrome or a cyclocross course.
Your goals are local: a club league, a regional time trial series or a local event your coach knows inside out.
You want occasional coached rides more than a full season plan.
For a rider with a specific goal, like qualifying for the UCI Gran Fondo World Championships or changing body composition while keeping power, the deciding factor is whether the coach has done it before with riders like you.
What to look for in a cycling coach
Experience with riders like you
The best coaches have been where their athletes are, or have taken many riders through it. If you’re 45 with a demanding job and a family, ask whether the coach has taken riders with that schedule to the goal you have. A great racing history or a PhD helps, and it isn’t the same thing as knowing how to fit a season around a 50 hour work week.
A clear roadmap on the first call
A good coach can tell you where you are today and the order of the steps to your goal. At reset cc, every rider starts with a season-mapping call that sets the target events, the qualifiers and the camps. If a coach can’t outline that progression, they don’t know the path well enough to guide you along it.
A specialty that matches your goal
Generalists are fine for general fitness. Specific goals need specialists. We specialise in masters riders racing the UCI Gran Fondo World Series, so qualification rules, course demands and age group fields are our daily work. Our guide to qualifying for Gran Fondo Worlds shows how we approach it.
A system that runs every week
Look for structure you can see: a plan that updates each week from your data, a way to log how sessions felt, and a regular review. Ask what happens when you miss a week, get sick or travel for work.
Support at the races
Race week is where preparation pays off or gets wasted. Ask whether the coach will be at your target events, and what support you get there: recons, briefings, feeds, a mechanic.
Questions to ask any cycling coach
Where am I today, and what are the steps from here to my goal?
Have you coached riders with my background to this specific goal? Can I see examples?
How does the plan change when my week changes?
How often will we talk, and how quickly do you reply?
What do you need from me: hours per week, data, logging?
Will you be at any of my races?
How much does a cycling coach cost?
Published prices for online coaching from established companies run from roughly $150 a month to well over $1,000 a month. CTS, for example, lists monthly prices from $225 to $1,295 and up on a 12-month term (CTS pricing, checked October 2026). Compare what each price includes, like calls, nutrition, strength and race support, rather than the headline number. Our current options are on the coaching page.
How reset cc coaching works at a distance
Our riders train at home, all over the world, and race together at team camps. Every rider gets a season roadmap, a plan written each week for their schedule, strength and nutrition, two video calls a month with their coach and the team chat. Then we meet at the races, with recons, briefings, race-day feeds, a mechanic and massage.
It works for riders who live nowhere near us:

Juan trains under 10 hours a week, most of it indoors, and qualified for Worlds at his first attempt.

Frequently asked questions
Is online cycling coaching as good as in-person coaching?
In our experience there’s little practical difference for most of what coaching involves, the plan, nutrition, strength and data review, because the work happens in your own training calendar either way. No trial has compared online and in-person coaching directly. What remote coaching can’t replace is time together at races and camps, which is why we combine the two.
How many hours a week do I need to train with a coach?
Less than most riders think. We build consistency first, usually five sessions a week of 60 to 90 minutes, then add volume and intensity as you absorb it.
Do I need a coach who lives near me?
No, unless your goal needs regular hands-on sessions, like learning to ride on a track. For a season goal, choose the coach with the right experience, wherever they are.
How do I find out if a coach is right for me?
Book a first call and ask the questions above. A good coach will be able to outline your season and the steps to your goal in that first conversation.
