Maraton Franja 2027: dates, course and qualifying
Maraton Franja BTC City is a Gran Fondo in Ljubljana, Slovenia, held for more than 40 years, with around 3,000 riders from more than 30 countries. The weekend has a flat time trial on Friday and the Gran Fondo on Sunday, both from BTC City. The 2027 dates are not announced yet. The race is held in mid June, and the details below are from the 2026 edition.

The Gran Fondo course
The 2026 Gran Fondo left Ljubljana for Vrhnika, Logatec and Godovič, dropped to Idrija and Cerkno, then climbed to Kladje, the main climb of the day at around km 87. From there it came back through Sovodenj, Škofja Loka and Vodice to the finish at BTC City. Riders more than 60 minutes behind the leaders fall outside the rolling road closure. The time trial course
The 2026 time trial was 21.2 km out and back from BTC City towards Domžale, flat and on closed roads, with riders starting one minute apart on Friday evening. It rewards an aero position and steady pacing, and you cannot warm up on the course.

Qualifying for Gran Fondo Worlds
In 2026 both the time trial and the Gran Fondo were UCI Gran Fondo World Series qualifiers. Under the current UCI rules, the top 25% of riders who start in each age group qualify, and the first three always qualify. If the 2027 race keeps its June date, it will be one of the last chances to qualify for the World Championships in Haute-Savoie.

Franja is a race on our calendar, not a team camp. Zack races it again in 2027, and members are welcome to race it too. You enter and travel directly, and your coach plans the build and both races with you.

The organiser has not announced the 2027 dates yet. The race is held in June, and in 2026 the time trial was on Friday 12 June and the Gran Fondo on Sunday 14 June.
